The Big Build - Project Update
Community Consultation Day
A success! Representatives from various groups, businesses and dignitaries, plus neighbours and others from the local community came along to our consultation day to find out more about the Big Build project. They had a chance to talk to members of the 150 Steering Group and share their views, thoughts and general comments.
It was great to see so many people wanting to learn more about The Big Build Project.
Thank you to all those who came.
The Big Build - Project Update
- A dream written down with a date is a goal
- A goal broken down into steps is a plan
- A plan with actions becomes reality
A lot of work is already underway in the background to do some early research around available grants and funds. This will be completed during the feasibility report stage.
The 150 Steering Group are meeting on a regular basis to review progress with Doug and Peter speaking to Karen Woolland on a weekly basis. It has become clear that Karen’s past experience with Staines RC will be invaluable as we develop our own project.
We now have a plan, with the following actions underway:
14th March 2024 Karen Woolland appointed as our lead fundraiser
6th April 2024 BRC Members’ drop in consultation meeting
27th April 2024 Community Consultation Open Day
Spring 2024 BRC Operating Plan completed & agreed
Spring 2024 Community Engagement Plan completed & agreed
Autumn 2024 Pre-planning application to local authority planning authority
Summer 2024 Funding Feasibility Report completed
About The Big Build
Bewdley Rowing Club are excited to announce the launch of The Big Build project as part of our upcoming Sesquicentennial - the 150th anniversary of inauguration as a rowing club on the 8th August 1877.
The plan is to remodel the existing clubhouse, installing a new fully equipped gym and adding a new structure to the roof to provide a large entertainment area that can be used for a variety of functions, and that can be utilised by the community for a wide range of activities.
The architect’s images here provide an exciting glimpse of what our new clubhouse could look like.
We are about to enter a pre-planning application phase leaving us around 18 months to fund raise. The following two years will then be spent finalising the design, selecting a builder and then having it built.
A Community Engagement event was held on Saturday 27th April 2024. We are aiming for an official opening of the new facility on 8th August 2027.
The concepts shown here are likely to need around £1.75 million to bring our dreams to fruition. We have appointed Karen Woolland, a professional fundraiser, to help us achieve our target.

If you are interested in helping us to achieve our goal of opening our new community focused facility in 2027 - please read on.
We are applying for grant funding from local and national bodies as well as looking for commercial sponsorship from organisations who may wish to be aligned with what we expect will become the premier sporting and social venue in Bewdley.
Growing our juniors rowing section whilst offering rowing to all ages and abilities in the community remains our prime aim. The health benefits of outdoor sports are self-evident, and the social networks formed at our club last a lifetime.
The proposed new gym facility overlooking the river will present a fantastic, and affordable, opportunity for Bewdley people who currently must travel outside the town to join a gym.
If you are interested in supporting the project in any way, large or small, please get in touch. If you just want more information about the project, again, please contact us or email the Chairman directly here.
