It was wet, blustery and soggy conditions at last weekend’s Bridgnorth annual regatta but this didn’t stop Bewdley crews bringing home some pots. In the round-robin type event, crews raced twice in each category.
In the mixed Masters double category, Tom Pederson and Amy Lowton-Smith, competing in their first regatta as a double, beat Bridgnorth and Warwick crews. And in another first, Melanie Gunn teamed up with Valerie Bennett in the Masters E double, beating the same Evesham crew twice to win the overall race.
In the afternoon, Jo Taylor, Valerie Bennett, Suzy James and Kerry Jones (pictured) won the women’s Masters D/E race, beating Worcester and then, Evesham, rowing clubs.
Shortly after, they teamed up with Helen Mosley, Amy Lowton-Smith, Gemma Smith, Nikki Downing and Fiona McCartney in the Women’s open eight race, unfortunately losing out in both races to crews from Northwich rowing club.
In her second event of the day, Melanie Gunn raced in the Women’s single sculls, beating Clifton College in the first race, but missing out to Stratford on Avon in the second race.
