Sunday 13th was the West Midlands Junior Championships held at Worcester over a 2,500m course. The championships is to find crews to represent the West Midlands region at the Junior Inter Regional Regatta later in the season. Bewdley sent a junior 8 to take part, they won their category and were the 3rd fastest boat of the day. Which was a great result considering as a club we haven’t been on the water much this winter due to high river levels. This race was perfect preparation for the following weekends Head of the River Race.
Saturday 19th – HoRR Thames Tideway
For most of the crew it was the first time they had seen the Thames let alone rowed on it, it’s a bit wider and a long longer than they are used to at Bewdley! They didn’t let this faze them though and finished the famous boat race course in a respectable 21 minutes 33 seconds, 286th place. All of the crew are 16-18 years old and some only started racing last summer, “To be able to then go and race 4.25 miles on the Thames is a huge achievement and hopefully shows their potential for the season ahead” Kat Carlyle Club Captain.
The crew was from stroke to bow: Joe Smith, Sam Clifford, James Myatt, Brendan Wrighton, Ed Frost, Lucas Beech, Cameron Chuter, Ben Charlton and Cox Sophie Osborne.
